From 1 October 2025, access to the CAS SciFinder chemistry database will be via web authentication with Shibboleth
In order to use the CAS SciFinder chemistry database, it was previously necessary to register with CAS, choose a user name and set a password for this database.
From 1 October 2025, it will no longer be necessary to choose a user name and a database-specific password. Login is done directly via Shibboleth.
New CAS SciFinder users will continue to go through a short registration process when logging in for the first time, but this can be completed quickly with just a few clicks. As part of this process, a CAS ID will still be assigned in the background. This is necessary so that new „CAS SciFinder“ users can use all the functionalities of CAS SciFinder.
People who created a CAS SciFinder account before 1 October 2025 will be asked when logging in from 1 October 2025 whether the account matching the same email address is theirs. They must confirm this („Link Accounts“). This ensures that previous settings, projects and research activities are not lost.
In exceptional cases, a person may have two accounts, e. g. because a CAS SciFinder account was created before and after a change of surname or as a student and later as an employee. If a person knows that they have two accounts and wants to keep information from both accounts, they should not click on „Link Accounts“, but cancel this process and contact the subject librarian for chemistry Philipp Dillschneider. In this case, an attempt will be made to merge the two accounts with the support of CAS. If only one CAS SciFinder account exists so far, you can simply click on „Link Accounts“ as described above once the appropriate account has been recognised.
